Her gentle, embroidered smile and beckoning lock-wash eyes let you know this oh-so huggable, plush stuffed dolphin is ready to leap and play. A loving recreation of her living counterparts, this bottlenose dolphin sports a high curved dorsal fin and medium, almost pointed flippers. A new friend for little ones who will alternately snuggle and frolick with her, this plush stuffed dolphin also makes a wonderful addition to a stuffed animal collection. Soft plush exterior; polyester fiber interior. Surface-washable. Imported. Ages 3 and up. 20"l. x 8"w. x 7.5"h.
Museum Provenance
Dolphins are marine mammals of the order cetacean. Diving more than a thousand feet below the ocean surface, remaining submerged up to 15 minutes and breathing through a blowhole are characteristic dolphin abilities. Fish, cephalopods, shrimp and lobsters are favorite dolphin foods. Of the thirty-two species of ocean dolphins and five species of river dolphins, the most recognized is the “bottlenose dolphin.” The Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History Marine Mammal program is a cooperative research program that focuses on whales, dolphins, porpoises, seals and sea lions.
Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
