Museum Provenance

This Glow in the Dark Beetle Computer Mouse recalls insects flying, climbing or swimming in the plexi-glass walled displays at our O. Orkin Insect Zoo, National Museum of Natural History. The O. Orkin Insect Zoo is a special exhibit hall on the 2nd Floor of the museum where visitors can observe live insects and their many-legged relatives. Volunteers conduct tarantula feeding demonstrations, work with live insects that visitors may touch and hold, and answer questions about the many-legged creatures that live in the Insect Zoo.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.

I really like this mouse, but the description is a little bit inaccurate. It doesn't "glow in the dark", it lights up with changing colors (red, green, blue, etc). It can be kind of a distraction out of the corner of your eye. However, I like it anyway.

This is the most unique gift I gave this year! When I saw this mouse, I knew I had to get it for my husband's Christmas stocking! As a computer analyst, he is constantly working on his computer. I thought this might add a "light, humorous" touch to his very busy, intense day. The beetle is a great color, and you can't possibly miss it. This is a perfect gift for your amateur insect collector! The beetle is gorgeous and with the fiberoptic rotation of colors, made even more interesting! We are hoping it has something to freeze the display at one color to limit distractions, but have yet to use it.
My husband liked it so much when he saw it, that I will be ordering him one, also.
