The hundreds of glittering cubic zirconia, gracing this Crystal Tiara Pin/Pendant Necklace and its coordinating Pierced Earrings, emulate the brilliance of the 1,198 pavé-set diamonds bejeweling the original garland-style Post Tiara. Purchased at auction for the Smithsonian in 1970 by Marjorie Merriweather Post, the Post Tiara center stone inspired the Crystal Tiara Pin/Pendant collection. The stunning Crystal Tiara Pin/Pendant and Earrings are perfect for any special occasion. Wear the Crystal Tiara Pin/Pendant on the silver-plated neckwire with lobster claw clasp or separately as a statement brooch. Assembled in the USA. Presented in jeweler’s boxes.

Museum Provenance

The Post Diamond Tiara was made in the mid 19th century (circa 1840). Made of silver and gold, as commonly seen in early Victorian jewelry, it was fashioned, en tremblant, with the flowers mounted on trembler springs so that every movement would enhance the brilliance and sparkle of the pavé-set 1,198 old mine and rose-cut diamonds. During this time, tiaras were of less classical design and the focus was on naturalistic motifs, as seen here with the bejeweled branches of leaves and flowers. This tiara, believed to have been made in France, was once the property of a British noble, Rt. Hon. Lord Methuen R.A. Marjorie Merriweather Post purchased the tiara and a matching set of floral spray brooches in 1970. The Post Diamond Tiara is a treasure from the vault at the National Museum of Natural History and is loaned for traveling exhibits.

Every Smithsonian purchase will arrive with a museum provenance card explaining how it is adapted from or inspired by an object or objects in our collection.
